Hi. My name is Jen X.

Yes, it is a play on Gen X. I’m 55 years old.

I went back to school after dropping out of high school and spending decades in the music business. At 50, I became a Trojan. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Music Industry from USC Thornton, then my master’s degree in Digital Media Management from USC Annenberg.

Somewhere along the way, I realized my greatest accomplishment was bigger than the degrees. I had finally stopped treating the many parts of me like they did not belong in the same story.

I’ve been...

  • A dancer.
  • A DJ.
  • A concert promoter.
  • A music supervisor.
  • A producer.
  • A single mom.
  • An events and catering specialist.
  • An entrepreneur.
  • A student.
  • An executive producer.

A woman who has had to reinvent herself more than once.

I’ve toured with hip-hop legends, danced backstage, DJ’d parties, interviewed artists, and spent years helping other people build their dreams. Somehow, I still found myself asking one question.

What’s mine?

Jen X is my answer.

This isn’t another influencer page. It is a living archive of music, culture, creativity, family history, business, personal growth, and the beautiful chaos that comes from refusing to fit inside one box.

Greater later starts now.

Around here, you’ll find stories from the golden age of hip-hop, behind-the-scenes memories from the music industry, lessons from launching new businesses in your fifties, conversations with artists, genealogy discoveries that reconnect families, and honest reflections about building a life that actually feels like your own.

You will also discover that I have a lot of names and nicknames. I was born Jennifer, but most people have called me J.J. My mother wanted a Jenny, but I have only recently started liking that. Jen X is how I’m embracing my Gen X life.

Welcome. You showed up right on time.
